
Guatemala - A suspected case of the massacre of 27 residents in the farming province of Peten, Guatemala has been dragged into police on Friday.
The suspect is Hugo Gomez Vasquez, he was accused of conspiring the murder and kidnapping.
According to some reports, as quoted by the Associated Press on Saturday (21/05/2011), Hugo was the Zetas cartel and a former chairman of the elite Guatemalan named "Kaibiles."
When interrogated, Hugo declared not guilty. "I did not do anything, and I'm not afraid of anything," Hugo said in a statement to the press.
In addition to conspiracy and kidnapping, Hugo was also accused of forming illegal association and obstruction of justice. Of all the charges, Hugo obtain maximum sentence of 50 years in prison.
Hugo went back to give a statement, "They arrested me because I am an ex-military, the government was arresting former armed forces, and I was never involved in any genk, I was a farmer."
According to court records, Hugo had previously been accused in a case of attempted murder in 2008.
Prosecutors released evidence related to Hugo's involvement in the massacre by 27 residents, including recording of telephone conversations.
