
A Japanese biologists have discovered a new species of the world's smallest frog.
The discovery took place in Malaysia are still on the island of Borneo.
As reported The Japan Times, Thursday (04/28/2011), before three years ago has found the smallest frog in the world. Species that are found this time is one part of the frog genus, namely Microhyla.
Professor Masafumi Matsui, amphibian expert from Kyoto University who has been doing research in Borneo, describing the new species as a new type of narrow-mouthed little frog from the genus Microhyla.
Malang Microhyla Matsui is the name given to the new species. Animals are found in western Sarawak and western Sabah.
In the same report he also gave detailed evidence of species Microhyla borneensis aka 'World's Smallest Frog'.
"I saw a few specimens in museum collections that he was more than 100 years. Scientists may have thought that their kids from other species, but in fact they are adult frogs of the species newly discovered micro," he said
Researchers also found that by following frog voice.
"The singing usually starts at dusk, with the males gathered in and around pockets of plants," according to CI in an email statement.
"They were voiced in a series of rough and throaty tone that lasted for several minutes with a short interval of silence." Symphony amphibians' lasted from sunset until its peak in the early hours of the afternoon. "
Matsui said that Microhyla Malang and Microhyla borneensis are relatives, are similar in appearance but are distinguished by body size, color pattern and toes.
To date there are 32 recorded species of frog in the genus Microhyla worldwide.
