Reforms under way President of the United States (U.S.), Barack Obama in his cabinet. According to AFP reports, citing White House officials, this summer Mr Gates will leave his post as defense minister.Gates will be replaced by the Director of U.S. Intelligence Agency (CIA), Leon Panetta. This week Panetta nomination as secretary of defense will be put Obama into the Senate. With Panetta moved to the Pentagon, CIA Director position is rumored to be given to Gen. David Petraeus, who currently serves as commander of U.S. military operations in Afghanistan.
ABC and NBC television report, Marine Gen. John Allen who currently serves as Deputy Chairman of the U.S. Central Command would replace Petraeus in Afghanistan. While Ryan Croker, the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, will serves as U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan. Gates, who has revealed his plans to resign from Obama's cabinet this year, has served as U.S. defense secretary since the administration of President George W Bush.
He was sworn in as head of the Pentagon in 2006. ABCNews explained, the official announcement of this new cabinet reshuffle will be done today local time. Until this news was revealed, the White House was reluctant to comment on this report. Obama's Cabinet reshuffle is done facing many problems in national security duties, including the ministers of defense and Joint Chiefs of Staff, in the months ahead.
In addition to Gates that the end of its duties, term of office of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen also will run out in September, and Petraeus has long called to end his duty in Afghanistan later this year. Panetta, who enjoys bipartisan support in Congress, emerged as a strong candidate to replace Gates after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressed no interest in charge of the Pentagon.
