Dow Jones CEO Resigns

News Corp. Chairman, Les Hinton, resigned, his role in the alleged phone tapping scandal that rocked the media company News of the World belongs to Rupert Murdoch. Les Hinton is the Executive Director in the Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones, since Murdoch took over the media in late 2007.

In his resignation letter, Hinton is now 67 years old, apologized for the "sufferings of innocent people" due to illegal interference by the reporters and private detectives from the News of the World - Britain's weekly tabloid giant Media News Corporation, which closed July 10, 2011 yesterday because of the phone tapping scandal of the victims and families of victims of the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2011.

Hinton served as head of News International - division of Murdoch's newspapers in Britain - from 1997 until 2007, when most of the phone tapping scandal surfaced and it started to get the spotlight. Hinton believes the scandal caused by a person acting on its own reporter.

"Not relevant call me indifferent to what had happened. With a situation like this, I think it proper for me to resign, "Hinton said as quoted by The Telegraph. "When I left the News International to lead the Wall Street Journal in December 2007, I believe the rotten elements in the News of the World has been eliminated," said Hinton.

"I believe that valuable lessons have been taken, and journalistic integrity has been restored. There is never any evidence presented to me, indicating that the illegal practice was carried out more than one journalist, "said Hinton again.

Pengunduruan self-Hinton came just hours after Rebekah Brooks, his successor at News International and a former editor of News of the World, also resigned amid intense pressure over the telephone tapping scandal. The scandal also led to Murdoch canceled plans to buy a majority share of BSkyB - a pay-TV service.

Murdoch himself has said Hinton accepted the resignation with "great sadness and regret." He also said he and Hinton have been through a "memorable trip together for more than 52 years." Murdoch said, the end like this truly "beyond expectations and brought grief. "
