Technology giants Google and Facebook seem to be very interested to open an office in Indonesia. However, they still can not realize their intentions in the near future is still hampered some things.
"There are three things that the main constraint Google and Facebook, to open a special office in Indonesia, namely the problem of infrastructure, electricity, and regulation," said U.S. Ambassador to ASEAN David L. Carden in the event media briefing held at his official home, Wednesday, July 27, 2011.
Recognized Carden, in his visit to Indonesia some time ago, Google CEO Erich Schmidt expressed his intention to open a special office here. Google users in Indonesia alone accounting for a lot, so it is developing a search engine in Indonesian.
Indonesia is also the country with the most Facebook users in the world's number two. This causes the Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg as a very interested, even Google's interest exceeds the bosses to build a special office in Indonesia.
"We do not deny that Indonesia was not ready to infrastructure problems. Problem electricity is also noteworthy as it pertains to the data server. It's not funny if later on the data server users in Indonesia is often problematic due to electricity only," said U.S. Embassy Charge d'Affaires, Ted Osius.
Osius also explain the transfer of user data from central servers in the U.S. to Indonesia is not easy matter. Regulation in Indonesia is quite confusing and convoluted the more aggravating circumstances. Osius rate, there should be regulatory changes in Indonesia.
"Google certainly will later open an office, but not in the near future because it prepared to wait for three things first. Similar to Facebook," he said.
