Fairey using images whose property is on the AP without permission to create his work. The artist sued by the agency for copyright infringement. The case has been resolved.
AP states that using the photo in an image that is printed on the shirt is a blatant violation of copyright deliberate photo.
A spokesman for the news agency said that the use of photos for free did not appreciate the hard work of journalists.
AP sent a lawsuit against Urban Outfitters, Nordstrom, and Zumiez. However, the amount of compensation demanded was not disclosed.
Nordstrom spokeswoman said the company already knows about that demand. However, other company representatives have not responded, according to AP news agency reported.
Paul Colford, AP spokesman, said, "When a commercial institution such as they, or a company that sells T-shirts to them, get the profit without paying by using AP photos without compensation, then it does not respect the AP ability in covering news."
Fairey, the street artists, using the photo shots Mannie Garcia in 2006 was to create artwork Hope in Barack Obama's presidential campaign in 2008.
AP sue Fairey in 2010 and asked the news agency said he did not violate copyright with his work.
AP later called back and said that Fairey makes his work using AP photos without compensation and without the title.
Agreement reached in January and asked both parties to work together with the results of the work and share the rights to merchandise using the artwork.
As part of the deal, Fairey, an artist from New York, agreed to no longer use the AP's photo of his handiwork without first asking permission.
However, the magnitude of the financial agreement of both parties was not disclosed.
In a joint statement, both parties withdrew their respective views regarding the legal issues in dispute.
"AP will continue to be vigilant to protect the copyright on the pictures to copy and commercialization that have no basis to use without permission," said Tom Curley, AP president.
"I appreciate the work of photographer and recognized the importance of providing opportunities for other artists to use the photos freely without infringing copyright," said Fairey.
The artist and the AP also agreed to cooperate in a number of photographs that will be created by the artist based on photographs of the agency.
