LIBYA - Libya's Minister of Health, the Opposition said, the President Moammar Gaddafi sent troops and mercenaries to rape the women protesters who opposed him.The soldiers are even 'armed' with a strong drug Viagra. The purpose of this rape itself was to embarrass the men who kept trying to overthrow Gaddafi.
More than a dozen cases of rape successfully documented by Dr. Nagi Barakat. This documentation is pushing the International Criminal Court to indict Gaddafi using rape as a weapon of war.
"I think the tactics Gaddafi is always trying to humiliate the people of Libya. One thing that he understands a woman's self-esteem is very important for a man. He wants more troops sent to embarrass them with pay to do it," said Barakat told ABC News, Friday (06/10/2011).
Barakat pointed out a man who was contemplating suicide because of two allegedly raped his daughter. Men are not robust in the face with embarrassment the case had failed to protect her child.
Allegations that it is difficult to be verified and is currently still under investigation by the International Criminal Court.
"We have information to confirm that the rape of opponents of the government is a policy in Libya," said Louis Moreno-Ocampo. "Rape is a new thing in an act of repression."
Still according to ABC News, some rape victims are now left Libya for medical treatment, including abortion.
"We have a committee of inquiry, trying to keep it in secret. Three in Tunisia and 12 in Ajdabiya," said Barakat.
He said that rapists received orders directly from Gaddafi to use Viagra. Most of the rapists are mercenaries from abroad who are difficult to identify the victim and her family.
"This is a very sensitive issue and culturally," he said, adding some rape victims fear of contracting HIV / AIDS due to the event.
For women in Libya, rape is one of the toughest ordeal of their lives. I was so embarrassed, they usually choose to commit suicide.
