Australian Defense Ministry stopped 1000 Civil Staff

SYDNEY
- Australia's Defense Ministry on Friday (6 / 5) announced it would lay off 1,000 employees in the department's civilian as part of belt tightening policy for the budget surplus back to the ministry.

The move is expected to save a budget of 300 million Australian dollars over three years. "We believe we can do more on civilian employees," said Australian Defence Minister Stephen Smith told reporters in Perth.

"A thousand civilian employees will not be extended as the initial stage of the policy of greater efficiency," he said further.

Reducing the project will be achieved naturally, not by recruiting new employees and restrict volunteers when needed. That policy has no effect on military personnel. The Australian Government will announce its national budget on Tuesday
