Obama's Speech Only for the Washington Public Consumption

Important SPEECH Barack Obama about changing U.S. policy in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on Thursday raised questions among Middle East analysts. Why did he come back to offend the Arab world when its policies are not much alter the U.S. stance? In addition, the Arab consensus considers Obama failed to fulfill promises made in a speech in Cairo in 2009, and the White House also said the President does not plan to announce a change of policy in a speech Thursday.

And the answer is,''reset''Obama's speech about the Middle East is not intended for the Arab public, but only for public consumption in Washington, where the government has been criticized because that is considered slow response to mass unrest in Arab and Middle East (known as the Arab Spring .)

When Obama wants Muslim world's attention in 2009, he spoke of one of the large capital, Cairo, and last Thursday he spoke at Foggy Bottom, Washington. A number of White House aide stated purpose 49-year-old president's speech that was to collect the events in the Middle East lately, in order to reconstitute the Middle East policy is at risk to make the U.S. was in the wrong side of history in the region.

Obama does want to align the U.S. with the Arab Spring, but to make it happen in Washington need to change the relationship of uncle Sam's with the Arab monarchies led by Saudi Arabia, and also Israel. But none of the options discussed, so he is not in a position to deliver a speech to arouse enthusiasm Arab.

Arab Spring

The main theme of Obama's speech in Cairo - dignity, justice, and progress - also about the upheaval in the Arab masses, but the Arab public is less impressed with Washington's response. U.S. was initially hesitant to support democracy when tyrants-tyrants such as Hosni Mubarak overturned companions. Washington also faces persecution in Libya's Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, but chose close eye on protests in Bahrain, which are also U.S. allies, and yet make a decision about the persecution that occurred in Syria.

The U.S. government response to mass action in the Arab world is even alienate its allies in the region. Some countries accused the U.S. of supporting tyrants and slow to support democracy, and his old autocratic allies such as Saudi declare Obama betrayed the loyal friend, Hosni Mubarak.

In fact, Arab Spring has reduced Washington's influence in two new democracies: Libya - as an exception if tensions over sweet - and most of the country autocrat who can survive.
Yet, somehow realism improvisation government response on the fast-changing area that needs to end with a good story. Because of this reason, in a speech Obama delivered on Thursday a new U.S. policy about the Middle East.

Obama said the only way to resolve the Middle East conflict is the establishment of a Palestinian state side by side with Israel - such as the purpose of the peace process. He called on the Palestinian side to implement the tactics of nonviolent resistance and demanded Israel to stop settlement construction activity, which he said was not illegal and damaging peace efforts.

He also supports a Palestinian state borders as borders before the 1967 Middle East war. But although officials claim that Obama did not offer new proposals to the peace process, suggested the 44 U.S. president will still make the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was furious and immediately went to Washington to ask for confirmation.

Netanyahu's arrival was awaited Obama. The reason is, when the presidential re-election campaign underway, the last thing Obama wants to do now is meet with the Israeli leader. During the meeting the two leaders last Friday, Obama explained that his proposal for Israel to return to the border before the 1967 war has been interpreted incorrectly.

Obama said, the boundaries of the state of Israel before 1967, it should be used as the basis for peace talks with the Palestinians. However, he also added that both parties still must approve the exchange of land or the area between Israel and the Palestinians in order to pull the lines of a permanent border between the two.

The same thing also delivered when Obama met American Political Action Committee-Israel (AIPAC), Israel lobbying organization in Washington, last Sunday. With the two sides met it, Obama wants to boost domestic political support by declaring its support to Israel.
