According to news station VOA News, Israel stunned by Obama's statement last Thursday on their borders with the Palestinians. The issue was a sensitive issue, which is difficult to be completed during the last decades.
For Obama, the border between the Zionist state that the Palestinians must be based on a map of the border before the War of 1967. The map outlines the boundaries of the territory in the Middle East before the war "Six Days" between Israel and Arab countries, namely Egypt, Jordan and Syria in 1967.
After the war, Israel occupied the West Bank, East Jerusalem, Gaza and Golan Heights, which is home to the Palestinian people. So, according to Israeli interpretation, Obama does not recognize the territories they controlled it.
"Map of 1967 had never become an international border. It was the armistice lines of a lot of territory is not clear and is considered a no man's land area and therefore, the area is considered a border that can not be maintained," a spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry , Yigar Palmor, told VOA.
Conversely, the Palestinians praised Obama's call for Israel to negotiate peace with the Palestinians based on the limits that have been determined before the Six Day War in 1967.
Hanna Siniora, the Palestinian National Council member from East Jerusalem, believes that Obama has given significant concessions to Israel while recognizing the territory of the Palestinian people's rights.
"We never opposed to security for Israel, but at the same time we also request security for the Palestinian people. This can only happen if the border between the two countries can be determined," said Siniora.
