Speaking in front of the U.S. pro-Israel lobbyists in Washington, Sunday, May 22, 2011, Obama said that what she said in a speech last Thursday was the U.S. principle of two states in conflict. Map of 1967 borders, should be recognized by Israel for the continuation of a credible peace process with the Palestinians.
"The pace of the international community to isolate Israel and the Palestinian attitude ignores the negotiations will continue if the absence of a credible peace process," Obama said,
Associated Press quoted from the page.
Obama said that the foundation of peace between the two countries within the framework of Two State Solution, must be based on Frontier Map 1967. The map outlines the boundaries of the territory in the Middle East before the war "Six Days" between Israel and Arab countries, namely Egypt, Jordan and Syria in 1967.
After the war, Israel occupied the West Bank, East Jerusalem, Gaza and Golan Heights, which is home to the Palestinian people. Obama said that Israel should pull out of these areas, and the Palestinians must ensure the creation of sustainable security in the region by continuing the process of peace negotiations.
However, this statement is denied by Israeli government officials say these areas is the result of Israel's war booty. They say Obama does not recognize Israel's sovereignty by issuing a statement like that. The plan, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would deliver his official statement before the U.S. pro-Israel lobbyists on Monday night and in the U.S. Congress on Tuesday.
Obama said that Netanyahu should approve his opinion which is the foundation of U.S. thinking about the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks since President Bill Clinton led peace mediation between the two countries.
"I want to hear this from Mr. Netanyahu. Before she said yes, the process of peace talks was a waste of time," he said.
