Peshawar - A total of 100 Taliban militants armed with grenade launcher weapon attack rampage at a checkpoint in the city of Peshawar, Pakistan, Wednesday, May 18, 2011. Clashes which lasts for three hours killing 17 people from both sides.
Reporting from the page the Associated Press, the incidence of attack occurred at a checkpoint in the Khyber Mera Sangu, 10 kilomater from downtown Peshawar. This area is often used as a hideout of Taliban and other militant groups. Presumably this is another series of Taliban revenge for the death of Osama bin Laden.
Liaquat Ali Khan, police officers said they were attacked by about 100 militants using weapons grenade launcher and other weapons. However, ultimately, outnumbered militants and weapons that make them retreat. As a result of this incident, as many as 2 policemen and 17 militants were killed.
Checkpoint in this region are frequently targeted by Taliban militants attack Pakistan, some of which use a suicide bomb attack and several others simultaneously. The attacks are usually carried out in retaliation for the arrest of the number of militants operating in this region by the forces of terror in Pakistan.
This attack was carried out in the middle of Taliban threats of revenge for the death of Osama bin Laden by U.S. special forces in the town of Abbottabad, 2 May. Earlier on Friday, May 13, 2011, Taliban suicide attacks in Shabqadar town's police training center that killed 80 people.
Pakistani Taliban spokesman, Ahsanullah Ahsan, said the attacks were carried out in retaliation for the killing of Osama bin Laden. "We did this to avenge the incident Abbottabad. Pakistan Army has failed in protecting their land," said Ahsan channeled through the phone line.
