UN forces and Sudanese Armed Forces Attacked

KHARTOUM - A person not known to attack army convoy in northern Sudan and the UN peacekeepers in Abyei area. The attack wounded two peacekeepers.

Southern Sudan is willing to declare its independence from South Sudan in refrendum in January, but the pressure appears in Abyei, an area believed to have oil reserves. So that was quoted by Reuters on Friday (20/05/2011).

The convoy was attacked as they headed Goli, north of Abyei. According to a spokesman from the UN envoy to Sudan, perpetrators of the attack is unknown.

Peacekeeping forces at that time led two groups of Sudanese armed forces as an agreement between North and South Sudan to withdraw its troops.

At the beginning of this month, has killed about 14 people in North and South Sudan conflict. Both groups blame each other.

At the end of the month, the President of Sudan, Omar Hassan al-Bashir said that he would not recognize the independence of South Sudan unless they do not make a claim for Abyei.
