NATO: West Must Stay Cooperation with Pakistan



ATLANTA - Chairman of NATO's Anders Fogh Rasmussen urged all Western countries to continue cooperation with Pakistan in fighting Islamic extremist amid criticism of the war between the United States and Pakistan on a secret attack on the residence of Osama.

Anders Fogh Rasmussen said, although many questions arise related to the death of the leader of Al Qaeda on Pakistani soil, Rasmussen saw no alternative to cooperation with Pakistan in fighting terrorism.

In his speech at the meeting of the World Affairs Council of Foreign Affairs in Atlanta, chairman of the Western military alliance of 28 countries expressed appreciation for the efforts made by Pakistan's military in the fight against militants so far Isalan on its border with Afghanistan.

"But I think there are many more that could be done. We must support the troops in Pakistan to realize that the real threat for the citizens of Pakistan came from terrorism and extremism, "said Rasmussen was quoted as saying by the Telegraph, Tuesday (05/10/2011).

Rasmussen threw his statement after Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has denied allegations that the deaths of Osama bin Laden near Islamabad showed incompetence and involvement of the Government of Pakistan in al-Qaeda leader was hiding.

NATO Secretary General also acknowledged the disclosure of the existence of bin Laden for years in Pakistan has raised several questions to be answered. However, Rasmussen believes the Government of Pakistan was eager to find convincing answers to these questions.

"What I emphasize is we need a strong cooperative relationship with Pakistan. If we want to ensure long-term peace and stability in Afghanistan and surrounding areas, then we need to have a positive relationship with Pakistan, "said Rasmussen.
