According to the newspaper, officials from emergency management office of the Springfield-Greene County Ryan Nicholls confirmed that 24 people were killed in the disaster. City of Joplin is located just a few miles from the border of Kansas and Oklahoma

"This hurricane has already caused severe damage along the Missouri and the citizens continue to face extraordinary risks both to the life and belongings," said Nixon.
"As a nation, we are mobilizing all resources to save the citizens of Missouri, look for the missing and provide emergency medical services and began a recovery," he added.
He also warned that the storm is not over. "I urge Missouri residents to pay attention to the serious weather information and follow any instructions and warnings from emergency staff because of this deadly storm continues to move across our country," he concluded.
