UP TO now, breast cancer ranked second in overall cancer cases below the cervical cancer. According to research, women who regularly drink five or more cups of coffee a day means to protect themselves from attack aggressive breast cancer.
It is known that breast cancer does not respond to various drugs, chemotherapy therefore often the only option. Chemotherapy feared because women do not want to look bad change, such as the risk of hair loss.
In this latest study, experts from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, found results that coffee drinkers have a lower incidence of breast cancer than women who rarely drank. The researchers analyzed data on nearly 6,000 women who pass through menopause.
Respondents who drank five or more cups of coffee a day had a 57 percent reduced risk of breast cancer than those who drank less than one cup a day.
Reported in the journal Breast Cancer Research, the researchers conclude, "a high daily intake of coffee found to be associated with decreased estrogen-receptor-negative breast cancer that was statistically significant among postmenopausal women."
The authors also found a slightly reduced risk in all types of breast cancer, although the correlation was significant enough to consider other factors such as age and weight that must be taken into account. It is quoted Dailymail, Wednesday (11/05/2011).
The researchers speculate that coffee contains compounds that affect various types of breast cancer in a different way. This fits in with the finding that drinking coffee may reduce breast cancer risk overall, although experts say further studies are still needed.
